According to the police, the duo has been identified as Vijayveer and Manjeet, who belong to Gurgaon and Delhi respectively. The duo has been arrested with the help of CCTV footage of the toll plaza. "Both were drunk. They were remanded to 14-day judicial custody and the Bolero they were driving has also been impounded. The officials at the toll plaza tried to nab them but failed," a police official said.
The police had a tough time identifying the culprits as the CCTV grabs did not clearly show the registration number of the car. The identity was established from scrutiny of the subsequent footage in which a youth in black clothes was seen.
According to sources, Vijayveer had come to the toll plaza to enquire about the victim's status. The deceased, Umeshkant Pandey, belonged to a village in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. He was shot in the neck on Friday night by unidentified persons, who refused to pay Rs 27 at Kheri Daula in south Gurgaon. After the incident, he was rushed to Medanta Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
