Former Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa arrested after he surrenders; is housed in a VVIP cell with TV, bathroom and bed; counsel says he will appeal to High Court on Monday
Hours after former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa was taken into custody after he surrendered before the Lokayukta Court in Bengaluru on Saturday, sources say he will be visited in jail today by his astrologer, in whom he has tremendous faith. They add that his family is expected to visit temples to pray for the acceptance of the bail plea he will file on Monday. 
Yeddyurappa will be treated as an undertrial (UTP 91180). He has been given a separate VVIP cell with an attached bathroom, TV and bed, will have access to home food and can even place a request for a TV and CD player.
Meanwhile, state BJP Chief KS Eshwarappa called it a "bad day" for the party but added, "we are confident that Yeddyurappa will come out clean."
The court rejected his bail plea and issued an arrest warrant against him on Saturday,u00a0 in connection with two cases regarding alleged irregularities in denotification of government lands. He will be in judicial custody till
October 22.
Yeddyurappa failed to show up in court for the hearing, where Judge NK Sudhindra Rao had pronounced his verdict at a hearing attended by Yeddyurappa's sons, requesting an exemption on account of back pain. Ravi B Naik, his counsel, said the former CM would challenge the Lokayukta court order in the High Court. Earlier, Naik had said Yeddyurappa would surrender before the Lokayukta court if the High Court asks him to do so, but when senior political officials reached his residence, there was confusion over his whereabouts.
Cases were filed by two advocates, Sirajin Bhasha and NK Balaraj in January this year after Governor HR Bhardwaj sanctioned criminal proceedings against Yeddyurappa and his kin for conspiring to denotify lands in and around Bengaluru in return for monetary gains.
