Known for their sluggish action in resolving commuters' woes, the railway authorities sprung a surprise by stepping up a gear in their efforts to clear a clogged sewer at the Charni Road railway station

WR springs into action to unblock choked toilet

A day after MiD DAY reported on the shoddy work by railway staff, which led to the toilet block sewage pipe getting choked, Western Railway (WR) authorities swung into action to unblock the sewage pipe yesterday.

Pitful of trouble: A pit dug up to replace an overhead mast has clogged the toilet block’s pipeline, which has resulted in a stench most foul at Charni Road railway station

WR officials from various departments arrived at platform one to inspect the site, and ensured workers removed soil and muck from the sewer that had been blocking the flow. WR sources said this was a short-term solution, and promised to take concrete measures to get rid of the problem permanently.

“We have inspected the issues with the sewer, and will have to construct a separate pipeline to ensure the toilet waste flows smoothly to the BMC’s main sewer line on the other side of the railway tracks,” said a WR official.

The new line would have to go beneath all four tracks, and would be taken up at earliest, said a WR official. u00a0
