Police think Chhota Shakeel's aide was sent to prepare the ground for a future D-company 'project'
Chhota Shakeel aide Rashid Malbari managed to slip into India despite an Interpol alert and police think he took the risk only because of a major assignment here.
Police sources said Rashid was sent to revive his network in south India and also create a base in Mangalore to facilitate hawala, arms and drug-dealing, which the D-company planned to use in future. Rashid was chosen for the assignment because of his strong network in Mangalore, Chennai, Kerala and Bangalore.
He could have been in the UAE or some other country, said officials as they investigate whether Rashid was sent by the ISI through Shakeel.
Passage to India
Superintendent of police A Subramanya Rao told MiD DAY that they are investigating how Rashid came to India but guesses he used the Pakistan-Bangladesh-Nepal route as most terrorists and underworld gangsters do.
Once a person reaches Bangladesh, it is very easy get into Nepal by road and from there anyone can slip into India. There is a syndicate working for the underworld and even ISI to smuggle people from across the border, he said.
Meanwhile, Rashid was produced before the court but the court denied police his custody, reserving the order for Thursday.
