Expect a colourful gig at High Spirits this week as music band Colour Compound will hold sway
If you believe that music is the colour of life, there is a music band that will agree wholeheartedly with you. Colour Compound is a year-old band that specialises in playing originals. The four-piece Mumbai-based band includes Rohan Mazumdar (guitar and vocals), Bradley Tellis (guitar and vocals), Adil Kurwa (bass) and Aditya Ashok (drums).
Lead guitarist Rohan says their name has a symbolic resonance attached to it. "We started very humbly by playing music in my building compound. Our band stands for the colours and sounds of life as well as the moods and emotions associated with it," he says.
Rohan adds that music has been part and parcel of his life. "I've been playing since college. I worked for a period of time but soon chose to opt for music fulltime with Bradley." Both started off as an acoustic duo that played originals and together they did a lot of shows. "Soon we wanted to form a complete band and added new sounds like the drum and bass. That's when Adil and Aditya joined us fresh from college," he adds.
Colour Compound is known to play original music. "We play 90% original music and we also do modified versions of popular songs." Rohan also does jingles for ads alongwith small projects on the side.
The band defines their brand of music as alternative and funk pop. They rank John Mayer and the Dave Mathews Band as their inspiration but admit that they still maintain their original sounds. They did some tributes earlier but now steer away from it as they don't want to sound like anyone else.
