Aamir Khan may keep screaming at autowallahs and taxi drivers to respect the tourist but they don't seem to be listening; at least not in the Capital.

On July 3, a 21-year-old Nepali tourist was gangraped by a taxi driver and his friends in the Mandawli area of east Delhi.

She was scheduled to fly to Saudi Arabia on July 2 and had gone to the Indira Gandhi International airport. But she was late and missed her flight.

According to the police, Sakshi took an autorickshaw to return to Mukherjee Nagar. However, during the journey, the autorickshaw driver could gather that she was not familiar with the city and took her to his house at Mukherjee Nagar, where she was raped.

"The victim was raped by the driver Vinod and his friend Avdeesh, who was intoxicated. The two were joined by another two men who raped her till the morning," said a police official.

The next morning, Sakshi managed to run away from Vinod's house. A passer-by saw her distraught state and called the police. A case of rape was registered at the Mandawli police station.
On the same day, the police arrested Avdeesh from his residence and another accused Kishore Singh was arrested on Sunday.

Tourist targets
June 18:
An 18-year-old British girl, working with an NGO in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, was allegedly raped by a taxi owner and his friend after she hired a cab on the outskirts of the town in Kangra district.
March 9: A 28-year-old Australian woman, who was holidaying at the Paradise Beach near Gokarna (Karnataka), was allegedly raped by a 20-year-old engineering student. The victim was staying with her husband in a cottage but was alone in the room when the incident happened.
