A Bangalore-based filmmaker wants you to switch off your cellphone for a day to protest against telecom biggies' endorsement of Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister.
Ranjan Kamath has filed an online petition protesting the "Modi-fication" of India and has asked people to switch off their Airtel, Reliance and Tata Indicom cellular and broadband connections to observe January 30 as cellular silence day. The petition is addressed to India Inc and specifically to Sunil Mittal, Ratan Tata and Anil Ambani.
Kamath feels that switching off phones is a non-violent and strong way to make the people's voices heard. "It is difficult to keep one's phone switched off for an entire day. Some one may lose a huge deal. But Gandhiji fought for freedom without taking a day off, why can't we keep our phone off for a day?"
Over 1,300 people have signed up so far. "Who knows? There could be a million people signing the petition," he told MiD DAY.
