Withdraw judicial accountability bill: Team Anna

Team Anna Monday demanded withdrawal of the Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill 2010, claiming it had no provision for investigation or prosecution of corrupt judges.

Voicing their disagreement to the parliamentary standing committee's recommendations on the Bill, civil society representatives said it should be brought under the ambit of the civil society drafted Jan Lokpal Bill.

bone of contention: Civil society members said 'the bill is to
mislead the common man'

"The present format of Judicial Standards Accountability Bill does not deal with investigation of the judges for corruption or their prosecution. It only deals with the complaints against judges for misconduct; the bill is just to mislead the common man," Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan said.

Arvind Kejriwal, civil society activist, said, "We will write to the PM seeking a clarification on this issue." The government has maintained that the bill would make the judiciary more accountable.
