Woman burnt for visit to parlour

FIR naming in-laws filed after inordinate delay

Getting her eyebrows done at a beauty parlour proved fatal for Bhagyashree Shinde (23). She was beaten and set on fire by her in-laws for daring to go to the parlour, alleged her father.

But the police took nearly a month to file the FIR.

The FIR was registered at the Chinchwad police station against Bhagyashree's husband Sachin (26), brother-in-law Damodar, mother-in-law Dhondubai and sister-in-law Geeta.

In his complaint, Bhagyashree's father Gurudev Kamle (45), a resident of Shivajinagar, also said his daughter had been harassed for dowry since her marriage in August 2006.

On May 19, Bhagyashree had been to a beauty parlour, which so angered her in-laws that she was beaten by Damodar and burnt, said the police. She was admitted to hospital with 65 per cent burns on May 20.

Bhagyashree succumbed to her burn injuries on May 26. Since then for almost a month, the police failed to lodge the FIR against her in-laws.

PSI Tondale is investigating the case.
