While Monday's downpour in the Capital brought relief to many, it resulted in the death of 20-year-old Rekha, a resident of Govindpuri in south Delhi. The incident was reported at 10 last night when Rekha, 20, was out shopping near the Navjeevan Camp DDA market with her maternal uncle.u00a0
It was drizzling then and suddenly the bike skidded near the marketplace. Rekha's uncle Satish was driving the bike and Rekha was riding pillion. When they slipped Satish fell on the wayside, but Rekha fell on the middle of the road. Unfortunately, a speeding truck was coming from behind them and before the driver could stop, the heavy vehicle had crushed Rekha and she died on the spot.
The truck stopped a few metres away and the driver fled from the spot. After the accident a crowd gathered on the spot and started protesting. The locals alleged that such accidents often happen in the area but the police haven't taken any measures to prevent them.
The crowd became violent started shouting slogans against the government and some people even tried to burn the truck. They succeeded in setting fire to the tires but here the rain came in handy and the fire couldn't take effect. Cops from three adjacent police stations arrived on the spot and they managed to control the situation after half an hour.
