The matter came to light when Vijay's son Sharath filed a missing person complaint with the Rajajinagar police after his father didn't return home for two days. In his complaint, Sharath mentioned his father's business and stated that some borrowers could be behind his mysterious disappearance.

Based on the complaint, police began to probe the angle and learned that Vijay was having frequent quarrels with Shobha. After keeping a close watch on the suspect, Rajajinagar Police Inspector A G Kariappa detained her for questioning.
"Initially she feigned ignorance. But after unrelenting questioning along with evidence, which included tracking the location of Vijay's mobile phone from her residence a few minutes before he went missing, she confessed to the crime," Kariappa said.
Money woes
According to the police Vijay was a head constable in Malleshwaram traffic police station and was running a money lending business on the side. He had lent Shobha Rs 1.80 lakh a year ago after holding her gold valuables as surety.
She paid interest for a few months, but later discontinued, which led to regular confrontations with Vijay. Unable to bear the harassment, Shobha discussed the matter with her friend Kumar, who offered to help rid her of the problem.

How she did it
After planning, she invited the victim to her house on the pretext of full and final settlement on March 6 where she offered him juice. When he lost consciousness, Kumar arrived with his friend Faizal and strangled the victim. The trio than transported the body in a small van to a eucalyptus groove on the outskirts and set it afire, but not before removing the victim's gold chain and ring.
"We have arrested Kumar and Shobha and recovered a vehicle used in the crime along with gold valuables belonging to the victim from them. Meanwhile, a massive manhunt has been launched to nab Faizal who helped them to transport the body," he added.
