Sandhya Gupta had come to the city on October 8 to meet her daughter who studies at the Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME) in Electronic City. Sandhya booked a room in Grand Krishna Hotel in Madivala on Hosur Road, close to her daughter's Institute.
Sandhya went to the Forum mall for shopping in the evening, and returned at 9.30 pm. When she returned she found that everything was fine and went to sleep.
She says in her complaint, "When I got up the next morning, I was shocked to see that the door was open. Initially I thought that everything was in place, but later found that all my cash and jewellery was missing."
Sandhya immediately went to the Madivala police station around 9.45 am and lodged a complaint and gave a list of stolen items from her room. She has also mentioned that the incident has occurred between 6 pm and 5.30 am.
In the complaint, she has mentioned the list of articles that were stolen from her room. It is mentioned that cash worth Rs 30,260, jewellery worth Rs 2.6 lakh, and a wristwatch worth Rs 2,500 were stolen.
Inspector ML Purushotham, Madivala police station said, "Sandhya has lodged a complaint with us and we are investigating. I don't know why she was carrying so much jewellery."
"We have interrogated 15 members of the hotel staff including the housekeeping staff, but so far we have found nothing. The valuables might have been stolen when she was shopping. We believe that someone might have entered through the window and stolen the valuables," he added.
