Savitramma, who had her hands chopped two weeks ago because her pig strayed into a neighbour's farm, died at Victoria Hospital last night.
The 35-year-old bled profusely when Siddaiah, owner of the farm, chased her and chopped her hands. He also allegedly tried to set her on fire. Siddaiah is now in police custody.
The outrage occurred near Mandya, an hour's drive from Bangalore. Savitramma has two sons, 18 and 14. She had slipped into a coma in the last four days.
When MiD DAY visited Victoria Hospital, Savitramma's distraught family was waiting to collect her body.
Siddaiah had allegedly tried to bribe the family into withdrawing the case, and had offered them Rs 30,000. The family had reportedly turned him down.
