The inspector evaded a notice sent to him for allegedly sending obscene text messages to a female journalist

While crimes against women in the city continue unabated, a Delhi police cop exemplifies the fact that the rot has reached the roots of the system.

Inspector Rajpal Dabas of Crime Branch has been accused of sending lewd SMSes to a woman journalist after illegally obtaining her call details. And now the cop from the elite Special Operation Squad has been evading a notice from the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), which was approached by the victim. Puja (name changed), 25, the journalist complained to the DCW after her allegations were not taken seriously by the cops.

"When I was on the way to home from a party on November 4, the inspector intercepted me and chased me for a while. When I made a PCR call he immediately escaped from the spot. I had given a written complaint about the incident to the local police station. But no action was taken against him. So I moved to the DCW and complained against the cop. The officials of the commission sent him a production notice on December 3, but he didn't appear," said Puja.

The victim alleged that the inspector is illegally accessing her call details and spreading rumours against her. DCW is now looking into the matter.

"We have granted the accused another date on December 14 and we have also written a letter to the police about the incident. I have written a letter to the police commissioner to suspend the culprit inspector immediately," said Barkha Singh, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women. Top cops remained silent on the issue when MiD DAY tried to get reactions from them.

Setting the record straight

The victim alleged that she had a lot of obscene SMSes which can be used as proof against the inspector.
"I have several lewd SMSes and even phone recordings which can easily prove that Rajpal is harassing me, I have shown all the proofs to senior police officers but they didn't take any action against him. Finally I had to move to the Delhi Commission for Women," Puja added.
