Yeddy, get ready for fresh battle

Even as the CM is relieved after his government is shored up from the recent turbulence, another salvo is allegedly being cooked up in the JD(S) camp to corner Yeddyurappa.

The cases filed by two lawyers -- Sirajin Bhasha and K N Balaraj -- against Yeddyurappa with corruption charges relating to the illegal allotment of BDA sites and de-notification of government land are pending in the court. While the JD(S) leaders are believed to have lawyers, Kumaraswamy is now hinting at unearthing scams much larger in proportion, in terms of money transactions.

Tip of the iceberg?
A source close to Kumaraswamy said, "There are more than 10 cases and we have collected vital documents and are waiting for the appropriate time to go public."Kumaraswamy, who schemed with his father H D Deve Gowda to bring down the Yeddyurappa government in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict quashing disqualification of rebel legislators, was reportedly advised by his father to wait for an opportune time.

"Kumaraswamy is frustrated after the failed attempt and wanted to go public on the scams right away, but Gowda asked him to slow down. In all probability, the scams will start coming out from the last week of this month," said the source. One of the scams is related to the CM accepting bribes from a realty giant in return for refunding the deposit after it backed out from a big housing project.

In the bag?
Kumaraswamy had cleared a township project with an estimated investment of Rs 60,000 crore in 2006, when he was CM, and a leading real estate company bagged the contract. However, the company pulled out of the project in 2009, a year after Yeddyurappa took charge as CM, seeking refund of Rs 400 crore, which it had paid upfront to the government. Allegedly, BMRDA refunded the amount without bringing the issue to the cabinet.
The JD(S) leaders are claiming that the refund was made at the insistence of Yeddyurappa and they have records to prove that the real estate company had paid kickbacks to him for the favour done. "It is a big scam, but it is only one among other scandals to be revealed by Kumaraswamy. We have enough evidence to prove this government is the most corrupt," said the source. Kumarswamy however, declined to comment saying it was not the right time to talk about the issue.
