Politics
Congress and BJP had come into a tacit understanding and as a give and take policy, BJP toned down its demand on JPS probe in the 2G scam, while the Congress agreed not to embarrass BJP over Yeddyurappa issue.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is understood to have put a word to Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who is from his home state, on behalf of Yeddyurappa.
This helped Yeddyurappa convincing his party high command that his case would be a weapon in the hands of Congress.
However, the political stunt continued with the local Congress leaders approaching governor H R Bharadwaj in Bangalore with a case against Yeddyurappa, while the BJP pretended to continue to attack Congress over the 2G scam.
This is the second time that Yeddyurappa was saved with the Congress joining hands with the BJP. The Congress decided against clamping president's rule on the state, last month, when 16 MLAs took back the support to the government, even after the governor recommended the Centre's rule.
While Yeddyurappa came under the scathing media attack over land scams, he managed to prove H N Ananth Kumar's hand behind it. Finally the high command chose to believe Yeddyurappa.
Caste
Yeddyurappa is from Lingayat, a politically strong community. While majority of the BJP MLAS and MPs rallied behind him, seers of Lingayat matts openly supported Yeddyurappa.
Apparently, the high command didn't want to take any chances, when the panchayat polls are just around the corner.
"The sociological factors are very important in politics. The high command didn't want to go against people's will and decided to give green a signal to Yeddyurappa. It is not caste politics," said K S Eswarappa, BJP state president.
Money
According to sources, huge amounts of money changed hands. "Yeddyurappa always believes in payment politics and like every time, it paid off for him. That's all I have to say," said a BJP leader.u00a0u00a0
Astrology
Bhanuprakash Sharma, chief minister's family priest and astrologer, had predicted Yeddyurappa had a tough time between November14 and November 24.
On his advice, the CM dodged the high command until November 23, and he got the reprieve the very next day. Sharma said, "Yeddyurappa is not still completely out of trouble. He has to perform certain rituals for a smooth sailing in the future. We have chalked out a programme for that."
He added that Yeddyurappa would go on a pilgrimage to Viashno Devi in a day or two, and will also visit Thirupathi to pay obeisance to Varaha Swamy, the god of land, to ward off the evils that caused land related controversies and disputes.
