A 20-year-old gangster is battling for life after he was attacked allegedly by members of a rival gang in Harinagar late yesterday night. According to an officer from the Subramanya police station, the victim, M Sunil, was assaulted by over 10 men. He has been admitted to Victoria Hospital.

The accused, identified as Ranga, is said to be Sunil's best friend. During the Ganesha festivals, Sunil was in need of some money, and he started pestering Ranga. An irked Ranga tried to kill him with the help of his associates, but Sunil escaped unhurt.

Later, both came to a compromise, and Sunil withdrew his complaint. But after the the incident, people started to fear him. Ranga decided that he liked his new image, and should stick to it. As an 'unwritten code', a person can gain entry in the underworld by killing someone. So Ranga decided to kill Sunil, since he was also his only rival in his area.u00a0u00a0
