Lahari Velu, director of a city-based audio and video company, was allegedly abducted by a gang led by the brother of BBMP corporator of Kammanahalli. Velu was abducted from the parking lot at 10.30 pm on Wednesday night in High Grounds police station limits along with his driver, while returning from the marriage function of a retired IPS officer's daughter.

According to Velu, eight armed men, including main accused Sreenivas, barged into his SUV took and him towards Queens Road. The knife-wielding abductors allegedly told Velu he was to be eliminated for not helping them to start up a distributorship for an audio and video business.

During the drama, Velu's mobile phone started ringing and was handed to him after he told them that he would like to speak to his family members one last time. Using presence of mind, Velu cut the phone call and dialled 1, which speed dialed ACP B B Ashok Kumar and he quickly informed him about the abduction and his location.
