<p>On Monday, the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/school-teacher-arrested-under-posco-act-for-molesting-minor-girl-in-bihars-gaya-23312101" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Bihar</a> government, led by CM <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/i-will-rather-die-than-join-hands-with-bjp-again-says-nitish-kumar-23267972" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Nitish Kumar</a>, unveiled the findings of a long-awaited caste survey.</p>
<p>The caste survey disclosed that OBCs and EBCs make up 63 per cent of the state's overall population.</p>
<p>As per data presented by Development Commissioner Vivek Singh, Bihar's total population slightly exceeded 13.07 crore.</p>
<p>Among these, the Extremely Backward Classes (36 percent) emerged as the largest social segment, closely followed by the Other Backward Classes at 27.13 percent. The survey further indicated that Yadavs, the OBC group to which Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav belongs, constituted the largest population share at 14.27 percent of the total.</p>

<p>This survey was initiated last year following the Indian government's announcement that it would not conduct a caste headcount, apart from SCs and STs, as part of the census.</p>
<p>On the caste-based census report released by Bihar Government, Former Madhya Pradesh CM and Congress leader Digvijay Singh says "I have always supported this. If we come to power here, we will also get a caste-based census done in Madhya Pradesh."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, in another incident in Bihar, a school teacher was arrested for allegedly molesting a student in Gaya, police said on Monday.</p>
<p>According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer Gulshan Kumar, the accused has been identified as Subhash Manjhi.</p>
<p>"The molestation incident that took place on September 30 came to light after the minor girl's uncle lodged an FIR at the Paraiya police station in Gaya," said the official.</p>
