Following the death of a BJP worker in Nandigram, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury requested on Thursday that the Election Commission take stern action. The attack, which took place on Wednesday, allegedly involved miscreants targeting a few homes. According to local BJP workers, the attack was carried out by TMC members.

Chowdhury questioned the effectiveness of the Election Commission and central security forces, asking, "If bloodshed occurs in their presence, what will happen in their absence? Since the TMC took power, the law and order situation in Bengal has deteriorated.

"The Election Commission should take strict action. If, in the presence of the Election Commission and central security forces, there is bloodshed, then what would happen in their absence?... The law and order is poor in Bengal since the day the TMC formed the government... The government of Bengal does not want people to participate in the elections," Chowdhury told ANI.

When a TMC member arrived in Nandigram, Purba Medinipur, villagers protested with "Go back TMC" cries. In response to the event, substantial security has been deployed in Nandigram, as BJP workers protest.
