While the Congress-NCP combine kick-started their election campaign by organising a rally on Wednesday — attended by party heavyweights, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) candidate, Subhash Ware, spent an entire night in the slum near Market Yard.

Ware, along with 15 party members, campaigned in Babasaheb Ambedkar Vasahat by organising door-to-door visits and decided to stay back after completing the campaigning by 10 pm.

“There are several pending issues here. Though the SRA agreement was drafted four years ago, it still remains on paper. Lack of adequate number of public toilets and sale of illegal liquor are a few of the major problems these dwellers face. I discovered these issues during my nightlong interactions with the slum dwellers,” Ware said.

When asked whether he believes in holding massive rallies and organising road shows, like other political parties, he told, “I don’t believe in show offs. I believe in reaching out to voters with the help of my karyakartas.”

Replying to the query on how he was going to tackle his richer opponents, Ware said since the party announced his candidature a month ago, people have been generous with their donations. “We have generated around Rs 19 lakh, which is sufficient for our campaign. Neither the party nor me have invested a single penny for the campaign. We are doing it with the help of Puneites.
