Maharashtra Congress MLA P N Patil has died at a private hospital in Kolhapur where he was undergoing treatment after falling in his house, sources said on Thursday, reported news agency PTI.

He was 71.

Patil, who represented the Karvir assembly constituency in Kolhapur district, suffered a severe head injury on Sunday after falling in the bathroom of his house, according to sources, reported PTI.

He was undergoing treatment at the private hospital in Kolhapur since then. He was on life support and succumbed to complications on Wednesday morning, they said, reported PTI.

Patil was the Kolhapur district Congress president.

In 1995, he contested the assembly election for the first time from Sangrul in Kolhapur.

Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole condoled Patil's death.

Nana Patole, President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, expressed his condolences, noting that a loyal and conscientious public servant has passed away.

Nana Patole, grieving the loss of P. N. Patil, remarked that Patil began his political career with the Congress Party at a young age and remained loyal to the party until his last breath. Serving as the President of the Kolhapur District Congress Committee for 22 years, he significantly strengthened the party's organisation in the district. His contributions extended further as the Vice President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee and as a representative of the All India Congress Committee.

In addition to his political work, Patil made substantial contributions in the cooperative and agricultural sectors of the district. As Director and President of the District Bank and Director of Gokul Dudh Sangh, he was instrumental in economically empowering farmers through cooperatives. His dedication to this cause will always be remembered, Patole said.
