Nana Patole: Seat distribution for 2024 LS Polls in MVA to be based on merit & surveys

Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole announced on Thursday that the seat distribution within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, which includes the Nationalist Congress Party and Shiv Sena (UBT), for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be determined based on merit and comprehensive surveys.

Patole made these remarks following his participation in the final leg of the Congress' review meeting, focused on Lok Sabha seat allocation within the Nagpur division. Accompanying him were former MP Vilas Muttemwar and former state minister Nitin Raut, stated a PTI report.

When questioned about the potential seat-sharing formula within the MVA, Patole emphasised, "All decisions will be made solely on merit and in alignment with surveys conducted by the respective parties. The INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) coalition will secure victory in the Maharashtra Lok Sabha elections."

In response to queries regarding the Congress' stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict, Patole, according to the report, redirected attention to the ongoing violence in Manipur, a region that has been experiencing unrest since early May. He questioned why the situation in one part of the country, where women are facing violence and unrest, is not receiving as much attention as international matters. Patole urged for a prioritization of domestic issues.

"One part of the country is burning and women are being assaulted. Why is no one discussing this issue? What is happening in some other nation can be discussed afterwards," he was quoted as saying in the PTI report.

Regarding reports of disputes or confusion during the review meeting, Patole refuted such claims. He explained that a large number of attendees were present, and many wished to voice their opinions, which was not always feasible within the meeting's time constraints. He reiterated that Congress members were united and enthusiastic about the party's success, dispelling any notions of discord.

The discussions held during the meeting encompassed topics such as police recruitment on a contract basis and the policies related to reservations for various communities. Patole stated that the Congress intends to engage with the public to emphasize the significance of conducting a caste census, aligning with the party's advocacy for comprehensive data on caste demographics.
