The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared on Thursday that the allocation of "grace marks" will cause the results of 1,563 applicants in the 2024 National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (NEET-UG) to be revoked. On June 23, these applicants will have another chance to take the test. Judges Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta of the Supreme Court bench were notified by the NTA that a committee had examined the cases of more than 1,563 applicants who had received grace marks to make up for time lost in the NEET-UG exam, reported ANI.

"The committee decided to cancel the scorecards of these 1,563 candidates. They will have the option to retake the exam," NTA told the court and added, "The exam will be conducted on June 23, and the results will be declared before June 30."

The Supreme Court has confirmed that the NEET-UG 2024 counselling procedure will proceed as planned. "Counselling will continue, and we will not halt it. If the exam passes, everything else will as well, so there is nothing to be concerned about," the Court stated.

Per the ANI report, the Court recorded the NTA's assertion that the re-test for these students will be notified immediately, with results expected by the end of June, to guarantee that the counselling procedure, which begins in July, is unaffected.

Alakh Pandey, the petitioner and CEO of Physics Wallah, remarked, "Today, the NTA admitted in front of the Supreme Court that the grace marks awarded to students were incorrect and caused discontent. They agreed to remove the grace marks. The re-examination of the 1,563 students who received grace marks will take place on June 23, or their original score will be accepted."

Advocate Shwetank, who represents the petitioners, claimed, "We filed a PIL regarding the NEET exam row, focusing on the paper leak and other malpractices by the NTA. The Court has directed that a re-examination be done on June 23."

Several applications have been filed in the Supreme Court demanding the recall of NEET-UG 2024 results and a new examination, claiming concerns such as paper leaks and other irregularities during the May 5 test. The NTA conducts the NEET UG exam, which is required for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other relevant courses at government and private institutions across India.
