Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Thursday launched a scathing attack on the government over the alleged irregularities in NEET and cancellation of UGC-NET and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has “psychologically collapsed” post-elections and will struggle to run a govt like this.

Addressing a press conference here, he also said educational institutions are being captured by the RSS and the BJP and paper leaks will not stop unless that is reversed. “It was being said Prime Minister Modi stopped the Ukraine-Russia War and Israel-Gaza war, but he is either not able to stop exam paper leaks or doesn’t want to,” Gandhi said.

He claimed that during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, thousands complained about paper leaks. “There has been an expansion of idea of Vyapam to rest of country,” he said of the recent controversy while referring to the Vyapam examination and recruitment scam in Madhya Pradesh. “Nothing should be done in arbitrary manner, rules that apply to one paper should apply to another,” Gandhi said. He also said that the Opposition will raise the exam paper leaks issue in Parliament.

Student confesses to receiving paper a day before exam

Amid allegations of paper leak in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate 2024 row, a candidate from Samastipur has admitted that he was handed the leaked question paper by his uncle, a day prior to the examination held in May this year, police said on Thursday. Anurag Yadav, 22, in his confession to Patna police, said that his uncle had summoned him from Kota in Rajasthan to Samastipur in Bihar saying that all arrangements for the exam had been made. Yadav’s uncle Sikandar Prasad Yadavendu, an engineer deployed at Bihar’s Danapur Town Council (Danapur Nagar Parishad) has asked him to return to Samastipur. In his confession letter to the police, Anurag said he was handed the NEET exam question paper and answer sheet on the eve of the exam that was held on May 5 and was made to memorize the answers.

NEET aspirants say little faith in NTA

Many medical aspirants are clamouring for a retest of the NEET-UG 2024 which has been plagued with charges of irregularities, paper leaks and steep rise in merit list, with the Centre’s decision to cancel grace marks for 1,563 students doing little to assuage their concerns.

‘Isolated incidents should not affect all’

Amid demand by the opposition to re-conduct the medical entrance exam NEET, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said isolated incidents of malpractices should not affect lakhs of students who cleared the exam rightfully. He announced a high-level panel to look into the functioning of testing agency NTA.
