Security was beefed up at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' residences in Nagpur following a neighbouring protest organised by a local organisation over the installation of pre-paid energy metres, according to officials.

Fadnavis, who also manages the state energy department, has two residences in Nagpur: Devgiri in Civil Lines and Trikoni Park in the Dharampath region, both about 3 to 4 kilometres from the protest site at Variety Square, reported PTI.

According to the report, members of the Jai Vidarbha party gathered at Variety Square to protest the government's decision to install pre-paid metres through the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).

A senior police official acknowledged that security was increased at both of Fadnavis' properties as a precaution in response to the demonstration, the report added.

Meanwhile, after the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 results, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis had offered to quit taking responsibility for the results. However, when he was requested to stay, Fadnavis said that he had not asked me to relieve me out of frustration.

"We were deficient in the political arithmetic in the LS polls. I didn’t ask (party leadership) to relieve me out of frustration. I am not an individual who will run away without fighting. Our inspiration is Shivrai (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj) who, when cornered from all sides made a treaty and later won all the forts he had lost,” he had said.

"If somebody felt I was frustrated and spoke emotionally, that is incorrect. I had a strategy in mind. I met Amit Shah and told him about my plans. He informed me that we would create a plan," he added, adding that he would not take a break while preparing for the next battle. Fadnavis stated that the BJP was competing against four parties, not just three, in the MVA. The fourth was a misleading tale regarding the BJP's proposal to amend the Constitution."The narrative did not work." If it had succeeded, the BJP would not have received 44 per cent of the votes, which is greater than in 2019," he said.
