Six people were killed after a car collided with a lorry at <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/tamil-nadu-articles" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Pulliyangudi in Tamil Nadu's Tenkasi district</a> on Sunday morning, police said. The car was coming from Courtallam in the district when the accident happened.
While five of the passengers died on the spot, one died in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/entertainment/regional-indian-cinema-news/article/bhavatharini-funeral-ilaiyaraaja-pays-last-respects-to-daughter-in-theni-23332176" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Pulliyangudi Government Hospital</a>, the police said.
Tenkasi's top police officials visited the accident spot and inspected the site, newswire ANI reported.
In another incident, a woman died and 17 others were injured after a stage made of iron and wood collapsed at a Mata Jagran ceremony at Kalkaji Mandir in Delhi on Saturday midnight, said Delhi Police.
According to the police, no permission was granted to hold the event, however, sufficient staff was deployed to maintain law and order. There was a gathering of around 1500-1600 people, the police said.
After the crime team reached the spot a case under sections 337,304A and 188 of IPC was registered against the organisers, said Delhi Police.
According to the police, one elevated platform was erected near the main stage for seating the families of organisers and VIPs. The platform was made with a wood and iron frame.

At about 12.30 am, the elevated platform curved down as it could not bear the weight of people sitting and standing on this stage. Some people who were sitting below the platform got injuries, the police said
All the injured were shifted to the city's AIIMS Trauma Centre, Safdarjung Hospital and MAX Hospital through ambulances.'
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old labourer was crushed to death by a crane at a cable laying site in Navi Mumbai township of Maharashtra, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place at around 11.30 am on Saturday in Kharghar area, newswire PTI reported.
The labourer was pushing a cable drum at the site where digging was underway when he accidentally tripped and fell on the road near a crane.
At that time, a crane operator moved the machine forward, crushing the labourer to death, an official from Kharghar police station said.
The deceased, a resident of Belapur area in Navi Mumbai, has been identified as Sunil Narsima Tangdi.
Based on a complaint by his brother, a case has been registered against the crane operator under Indian Penal Code sections 304A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life) and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, the official said.
The body was sent to a government hospital for post-mortem, the police said, adding a probe was on into the incident. (With inputs from agencies)
