The tweet, which was posted when Agrawal was not even an employee of Twitter, was not the CEO’s original comment or his personal view and he was merely quoting a comedian mocking racism and Islamophobia in USA. This was also clarified by Agrawal to a user in the same Twitter thread back in 2010

A ‘controversial’ 11-year-old tweet by Twitter’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Parag Agrawal has gone viral on social media, with conservatives expressing their displeasure over it.

On October 26, 2010, Agrawal had tweeted, “If they are not gonna make a distinction between Muslims and extremists, then why should I distinguish between white people and racists."

The tweet, which was posted when Agrawal was not even an employee of Twitter, was not the CEO’s original comment or his personal view and he was merely quoting a comedian mocking racism and Islamophobia in USA. This was also clarified by Agrawal to a user in the same Twitter thread back in 2010.

Twitterati, however, was quick to react, with users slamming Agrawal and stating that his comments were ‘racist’.

“So, Twitter’s new CEO is a racist. Why am I not surprised?" wrote a user.

Another user tweeted that “New Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal makes Dorsey look like a moderate. Agrawal is left of Lenin. We’re all on borrowed time."

Agrawal will take over from Jack Dorsey as the CEO in 2022. He joins a select group of CEOs of Indian-origin heading technology giants in the US.
