Uttar Pradesh: Journalist Siddique Kappan gets bail in PMLA case

Kappan was booked under PMLA case in February 2021 and was bailed out in September for the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. However, he remained in jail due to the ED case and was denied bail in October.

Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday granted bail to journalist Siddique Kappan in the Enforcement Directorate case filed against him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.


Kappan's lawyers said that once the bail bond in the ED case has been filed, he will get to go home. He was arrested in October 2020 while on his way to Hathras.

Kappan was booked under PMLA case in February 2021 and was bailed out in September for the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. However, he remained in jail due to the ED case and was denied bail in October.

He was arrested in October 2020 while on his way to Hathras to report on the gangrape and subsequent death of a Dalit woman. 

In the ED’s PMLA case, Kappan was accused of receiving money from the Popular Front of India to “incite riots”.
