Kolkata: Inspired by 'Man vs. Wild', a survival television series hosted by British adventurer Bear Grylls, a man in West Bengal has changed his eating habits and relishes 'delicacies' like raw fish, snails and insects.

His normal diet includes raw fish, snails, frogs, snakes, cockroaches and insects along with boiled rice.

A resident of Basirhat in North 24 Parganas district, Raj Kumar Das, 25, has been attracting interest with his food habits.

Das, who assists his barber father, had been hooked to TV since his school days and is an avid fan of 'Man vs. Wild', where Grylls makes his way through some of the most inhospitable places on Earth living on live spiders, lizards, snakes, insects and even animal carcasses.

"I have been watching the show for six-seven years where this man eats frogs, snakes and all such things so I too thought of doing the same. Initially, I had some problems, but now I relish eating raw fish, insects and snails," said Das.

"I have been eating all these for six-seven years and never faced any problems. The only thing is my appetite has been rising and now I eat at least 8-10 times a day," he added.

Das hopes to get an opportunity to display his unusual eating habits to the world and open up avenues of a better livelihood.

"I hope my unique ability gets attention of the people and I wish to showcase this on TV which may open up avenues for a better livelihood," he added.
