Tiger Woods said he is attempting to "become a better person" but refused to confirm reports that divorce from his wife Elin, the mother of his two young children, had already been finalised.

u00a0Looking tired and gaunt, the 34-year old American also refused to comment on his links with Dr Anthony Galea, the controversial Canadian who is being investigated by federal authorities in the US over his alleged use of a performance-enhancing drug.

Several of Woods' lucrative sponsors have dropped out since details of his salacious affairs came to light and there is concern over the reception he will receive from the packed galleries when the prestigious tournament gets under way tomorrow.

On the subject of divorce, former England cricketer Mark Ramprakash, 40, was granted a "quickie" divorce from his wife Vandana in London yesterday.

The couple split in 1997 after his affair with single mother Sadia Saleem, now 30, became public. Ramprakash, an accomplished Western dancer, was then participating in the popular TV dance programme Strictly Come Dancing.

Reunited for the sake of their daughters, the couple's reconciliation failed. Yesterday's divorce was granted in 58 seconds, reportedly because of Vandana's admitted "unreasonable behaviour".
