So, whatever happened to our war on terror. The "aar-paar ki ladaai" (fight-to-the-finish) on terror has taken a backseat. We are back to politics.

Netas' two-faced war on terror

So, whatever happened to our war on terror. The "aar-paar ki ladaai" (fight-to-the-finish) on terror has taken a backseat. We are back to politics.

I was wondering how the Sri Lankan government would have reacted to the rants of a veteran politician a constitutional head of a southern Indian state proclaiming Velupallai Prabhakaran was not a terrorist.

If he could say that, then why do we raise an eyebrow when Mullah Mohammad Omar the one-eyed Taliban warlord treats Osama bin Laden as a benefactor?

It brings us to the famous adage at the centre of the debate on terrorism one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter.

In fact, it would be interesting to note that it took several days of brainstorming for the world diplomats to ponder over the semantics of terrorism and yet, I believe, there is no consensus.

For the record, The LTTE headed by Prabhakaran is a designated terrorist organisation and Prabhakaran is wanted by India for the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The south Indian politician, who reveres one of the most wanted men by India, is an ally of the party whose prime minister was killed by Prabhakaran.

The LTTE links with several global terrorist organisations (most notably the D-Company) have been proven.

Now, one doesn't need to be a secret service official to know that the D-Company has links with the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence.

A symbiotic association, the D-Company helps the ISI to execute its plans India and in return gets money as well as shelter.

The point is, if you are supporting Prabhakaran, you are indirectly supporting the perpetrators of 26/11.

I wonder why the veteran Tamil politician had to lie on the Marina beach in front of two air-coolers to prove the point that he was a great supporter of the Tamil cause.

Does the ethnicity of a person absolves him of the suicide bombings, constant attacks on the Sinahalese, prominent politicians and hundreds of soldiers that he has been involved in?

Why did he not recommend Prabhakaran a peaceful way of protest like a fast unto death to demand an autonomy for his people? Maybe, our politicians need a bigger shock than the 26/11 attacks to wake up from their deep slumber.
