N Srinivasan, the controversial leader of the Board of Control for Cricket in India has good reason to feel victorious as the Supreme Court allowed him to resume his duties as president of the cricket establishment yesterday.

The Chennai man was not exactly knocked out of his chair in the last few months, but he was sitting on a shaky piece of furniture, what with the court battle against the Cricket Association of Bihar and a section of the media baying for his blood.
Although the battle to regain his lost credibility will be work in progress, Indian cricket will be best served if Srinivasan gets down to solving the problem of the pending South Africa tour. The ego issues aside, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his Team India colleagues need to undertake a meaningful tour to give themselves a chance of winning India’s first ever series in South Africa since both countries began their Test rivalry in 1992.
The last two Test tours (2006-07 and 2010-11) have witnessed improved performances. In 2006-07, India won their first ever Test in South Africa and went into the third and final Test with a good chance to win the series. Alas, they ended up losing 1-2.
The scoreline of the last tour was 1-1.
It’s time the rich BCCI place their cricketing wealth in the right places and give India vs South Africa cricketing rivalry the boost it requires.
Indian cricket needs to be in the news for the right reasons. To captain Dhoni’s credit, he has managed to pick his team up after the 2012 home series loss to England in great style and has since won whatever there was to win in both forms of the game.
