Perhaps something more than self-righteous indignation is required from the government, especially since yet another study has revealed that practically all Indian currency notes and coins are contaminated with harmful bacteria, including some which cause tuberculosis ufffd not an unsurprising conclusion as anyone would agree. Clearly we need to clean up on more than corruption.
Corporate consensus
Anna Hazare's victorious campaign has clearly enthused urban India. But Gandhian Hazare's triumph did not strike a chord with just the urban middle class and youth but also, now we learn, India Inc.
By giving hefty donations to 'India Against Corruption', the umbrella organisation which led the crusade, corporate India too signaled exactly where it stood when it comes to fighting corruption. Jindal Aluminium was the largest single donor to Hazare's cause by giving Rs 20 lakh. Eicher Goodearth Trust, Nimesh Kampani and Vallabh Bansali were among the other significant contributors.
There are others too who are willing to walk the talk. Industrialists Harsh Goenka, Adi Godrej, Sunil Munjal and Rahul Bajaj, among others, have termed the movement as a "wake up call" for the political class. It couldn't be a better and happier irony to think it was a Gandhian who brought it all together!
