This is also the reason why Chief Minister Yeddyurappa is smiling. He has realised no one can displace him, no matter what the magnitude of his fraud is, so long as he can maintain that those alleging him of fraud have themselves faced a similar allegation long ago and their motive is not to fight corruption, but smash the BJP in the state.
The sad part is that even the media, with its apparently lopsided proactive journalism, came in handy to Yeddyurappa to make his case before the high command when he was in the line of fire. A local TV channel harped about the necessity of his ouster issuing deadline after deadline, while its rival channel showed half-baked sting visuals to expose Reddy conspiring to topple the government.
The former channel is promoted by a BJP politician identified with Yeddyurappa's rival camp in the party. In the second one, a news anchor is the son of the chief minister's OSD (officer on special duty) and the father is rumoured to have leaked the tape to the channel only to help his boss.
u00a0Now the state legislature is clinging on to a technical point that the CM can't order an enquiry without its consent. The government has constituted an enquiry commission under a retired judge and the motive is to bring the attackers under an attack, as the commission has as a mandate to investigate the scams right from the day when Deve Gowda was the CM. Gowda's son and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will also come under the scanner, and S M Krishna and N Dharma Singh too won't be spared. While Kumaraswamy is spearheading the attack, the rest are with him in firing salvos on the CM.

People won't believe in this enquiry drama because the commission is spawned to function at the behest of none other than the main accused. The Lokayukta too is crying foul and looking adamant over bending the CM.

And what is his motive? He has an opportunity in this, to tinker his image that was dented after he resigned protesting government's support to the corrupt and took back with L K Advani's intervention. This earned him a pro-BJP tag, which he wanted to shrug off.
So the motives of the characters of the drama have made the whole thing a farce. Where is the respite for the poor voter who still hopes for sunshine in his life?
