Cricketing great Sir Garfield Sobers has blamed the India Premier League for the retirement of West Indian players from Test cricket and faulted the Twenty20 version of the game for putting it in danger of damaging Test cricket."
Participating in a forum on cricket website cricinfo along with fellow West Indian icons Sir Viv Richards, Richie Richardson and Wes hall, Sobers, lashed out : "I wonder why they play the game now. What's their motive?
"We never thought about money when I played u2013 and we never made any u2013 but now it seems that's all it's about.
"Look, I'm delighted the players are making money from cricket. But what's their priority? It should be the honour of representing West Indies," the man regarded by many as the game's greatest all-rounder ever.
"Some of these players retiring from test cricket wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't for the IPL. The money in the game now from Twenty20 is in danger of damaging Test cricket."
