In what was a stomach-churning turn of event, slaughter of goats as sacrifice for Id-ul-Adha and waterlogging on the streets after a heavy downpour led to a strange and disturbing situation in Bangladesh's capital with the roads of Dhaka turning into veritable a 'rivers of blood'
The incident happened on Tuesday when Dhaka experienced waterlogging due to heavy rainfall and the blood from the slaughter of livestock got mixed with it to give the impression of blood flowing through the streets.
According to news reports, around 100,000 livestock were sacrificed in Dhaka this year, mainly on the streets or at underground car parks in residential buildings.
Apparently, two city corporations came together and assigned 1,000 spots – 496 in the north and 504 in the south – for the purpose of slaughtering animals.
The city also witnessed flooding in many sections due to poor drainage systems.
In some areas, the two incidents coming together saw images of residents wading through ankle-high bloody water.
Twitterati reacted to the visuals with horror and disgust.
