The Archbishop of Canterbury, who has been critical of British Prime Minister David Cameron’s response to the refugee crisis, has offered sanctuary to families of Syrian refugees in his Lambeth Palace in London

London: The Archbishop of Canterbury, who has been critical of British Prime Minister David Cameron’s response to the refugee crisis, has offered sanctuary to families of Syrian refugees in his Lambeth Palace in London.

The refugees will live as Archbishop Justin Welby’s guests in a cottage within the grounds of his official home in the city and their rent will be paid for from the charitable funds.

Welby’s offer comes after Pope Francis said the Vatican would host two refugee families and appealed to each of the 120,000 Catholic parishes to take in at least one family.

It emerged last week that a refugee family of four from Damascus had moved into a flat in the Vatican, in line with a call by Pope Francis.
