As the world reacts with shock and awe to Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton in the US presidential election, we take a look at some famous ‘Donalds’ in the world.


Donald Trump: Having defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 US election, Trump will take over as the new US President on January 20, 2017. At 70, Trump will become the oldest President of the US. He is also the chairman and president of The Trump Organisation, the principal holding company for his real estate ventures and other business interests. As a businessman, Trump has built office towers, hotels and casinos across the globe.

Donald Duck

Donald Duck: One of the most famous cartoon characters ever, Donald Duck was created in 1934 at Walt Disney Productions. An anthropomorphic white duck, Donald is renowned for his mischievous personality. Donald Duck was even included in TV Guide's list of the 50 greatest cartoon characters of all time in 2002. Apart from appearing in more films than any other Disney character, Donald Duck is also the most published comic book character in the world, outside of the superhero genre.

Sir Donald Bradman: The late Aussie is regarded as the greatest batsman to have played the game of cricket. Born in New South Wales in 1908, the Don finished his career with 6996 runs in 52 Tests at an average of 99.94, with 29 Tests hundreds. Neither before nor after him has an international batsman registered such a supreme average.

McDonald’s: American hamburger and fast food restaurant chain, McDonald’s was founded in 1940 as a barbecue restaurant. In 1948, it shifted focus to hamburgers. The first McDonald's franchise opened in Phoenix in 1953. Presently, McDonald's is the world's largest restaurant chain, serving over 65 million customers daily in nearly 120 countries, courtesy its 35,000 plus outlets. Hamburgers apart, McDonald’s sells, cheeseburgers, chicken products, french fries, wraps, desserts, etc.

Donald Sutherland: A noted Canadian actor, who has been in the film profession for six decades, Sutherland is renowned for his films like The Dirty Dozen (1967), Kelly's Heroes (1970), Klute (1971), and Eye of the Needle (1981) among many others. He is regarded as one of the most versatile actors from Canada. Sutherland has been nominated for eight Golden Globes, and has won two, for his performances in television films Citizen X (1995) and Path to War (2002). Although he has been induced in the Hollywood Walk of Fame, he is regarded as one of the best actors to never be nominated for an Oscar.
