Five members, including two girls, from the same family, drowned after they were swept away by strong sea waves in Pakistan's port city of Karachi.
The five picnickers drowned in the Hawksbay beach area of the city, Senior Superintendent Police Adeel Hussain Chandio said.
He said two girls, 16-year-old Dua Fatima and 14-year-old Hamna Imran got swept away by strong waves.
When the father of Dua, Zakir Hussain, 42, went to rescue them he also drowned while two other members of the same family Usama, 20, and Amin, 22, also got swept away by strong waves while trying to rescue them.
The official said all five bodies had been retrieved and sent to the hospital.
Another police official said many people are thronging to beaches because of the Independence Day holiday, making it difficult for policemen and rescue officials to control them from going deep into the water.
