Jakarta: An Indian fugitive has been arrested at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport after he arrived in the Indonesian island from Sydney, a media report said on Monday.

Mohan Kumar, 56, a convicted serial killer, was detained around 2.00 p.m. on Sunday, bali.coconuts.co reported, adding that Australian Federal Police had alerted the Indonesian authorities about an Interpol red notice for the man's arrest.

Indonesian media reports said Kumar was an infamous serial killer called "Cyanide Mohan", who was sentenced to death in India after his 2013 conviction for allegedly killing at least 20 women.

Police said they were coordinating with the Indian consulate general and Indonesian National Police in the case.

Kumar, a former physical education teacher in Karnataka's Kanyana village, used to poison his victims by feeding them cyanide pills as contraceptives.

The serial killer would promise to marry the women, but decamp with their gold jewellery and cash after killing them.
