The man, identified as Sawagat from Andhra Pradesh, was said to have suffered 40 per cent burns when a Molotov cocktail bomb hit him during clashes between rioters and police in village Eker on Sunday. Sawagat, a vehicle operator, was working on a digger when he was injured by the fire bomb, the Gulf Daily News reported today.u00a0

Since he did not have any identity documents, he was admitted to the Salmaniya Medical Complex in Bahrain's capital Manama after being issued a temporary Central Population Register (CPR) card number.

However, he has since disappeared, prompting speculation that he was an illegal resident. "According to hospital officials, they received only one case and that person was released later," an Indian Embassy spokesman said.

"They also said the worker wasn't carrying any identity card and was admitted on temporary CPR number. "No other details were available with them, but we are sure his friends would have provided him shelter and must be treating him at home."

"The victim, who I believe is from Andhra Pradesh, is apparently an illegal worker and didn't want anyone to know about him or the incident, although it was a police case," the embassy spokesman said. "We cannot help him unless he comes forward and asks for help," he said.u00a0
