Prince William reportedly received a pair of underpants from Kate Middleton for his Valentine's Day gift.

While the Duke of Cambridge made sure his wife had flowers and a card to open on February 14, the Duchess sent him a pair of Ralph Lauren boxer shorts.

The 30-year-old Duchess posted the medium-sized trunks to the Falkland Islands, where the Duke is serving as an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot.

Love in the air: Kate flew solo on Valentine's Day and met sick children
at a hospital in Liverpool. But even though she was alone, there was no
shortage of flowers and cards as 8-yr-old Jaqson Johnston-Lynch presented
her with a posey of red rosesu00a0 and a present. Pic/getty images

She paid ufffd25 (Rs 1,900) for the Polo Ralph Lauren Pouch Trunks in stretch cotton, jersey knit, from the John Lewis store Peter Jones in Chelsea, West London. A member of staff was quoted as saying, "The shorts are very popular and very trendy. Kate knew what she wanted when she came in and went for the boxed trunks that give a very nice fit."

The staff member added, "She is in here a lot buying clothes and stuff for their homes. It's nice to know we can be of such use."

William is in the Falklands for six weeksu00a0-- the longest he has been apart from Kate since they married.
The Duchess disclosed that she had received flowers and Valentine's Day card as she carried out her first full day of public engagements without him on Tuesday.

Queen's permission to marry
However ludicrous it may sound, hundreds of descendants of King George II have to seek the permission of Queen Elizabeth to marry.

For an ancient law, passed in 1772 and still in existence, prevents any descendant of King George II from marrying without the ruling monarch's explicit consent.

Wills-Kate to get Barbie makeover
Mattel, the famed toy company, is releasing a special set of Barbie dolls made in the likeness of Prince William and Kate Middleton all in celebration of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first wedding anniversary this April. They have been immortalised in plastic, dressed in their full wedding day costume worn at Westminster Abbey.
