Draco Malfoy has leapt into the drugs storm surrounding Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe, defending his on-screen arch-enemy.

Actor Tom Felton, who plays the evil wizard in the movies spoke out about the rumours that co-star Radcliffe used cannabis.

Radcliffe was allegedly pictured inhaling from a rolled up cigarette at a party earlier this month.

A fellow reveller at the gathering said that he overheard the 20-year-old actor declare "I love weed" at a private house party in London.

But Felton came to the defence of his wizard friend when he appeared at an exhibition in Birmingham.

Under pressure

"Obviously Daniel and Emma Watson are under more pressure to keep a squeaky-clean image. When the media fabricates stories I don't think it's really fair on those poor guys.

"Those guys couldn't be more professional, especially Daniel, not only with the acting part but dealing with the day-to-day stuff. I look up to him. We've all worked together for so long. They're all lovely people."

"He did ring me last week. He's a trouper, he's doing his best. I just reassured him that the vast majority of people are on his side."

Radcliffe has refuted the allegations of drug-taking, insisting that he only smokes "the occasional cigarette".

Radcliffe and Felton are currently shooting scenes for the final instalment of the wildly succesful Harry Potter films.

The two-part Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is rumoured to be premiered in March 2010.

Felton said, "We've just finished doing the most substantial bits of filming.

"I think we're revelling in the fact that this is it- the last one. I get quite emotional just thinking about it."
