Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra announced in a televised speech the dissolution of the House of Representatives, which is now awaiting royal approval.
The protesters, who have been united as the "People's Democratic Reform Committee," rejected the House dissolution which would pave way for a fresh general election. They demanded Yingluck to step down and hand power to a "people's council".u00a0
