The painted ladies were briefly handcuffed, then got dressed before they were put into a cop car ufffd and taken into custody on the evening of July 30, where they'd remain for 25 hours.
Andy Golub, 45, has spent the past three years giving new meaning to the term "painting nudes," using his brushes not to depict naked women on a canvas ufffd but painting his vision directly onto their skin.
Typically clad in nothing but flip-flops and (usually) a G-string, the artist's topless muses have posed for him at city landmarks including Columbus Circle and the Brooklyn Bridge, as well as nearly two dozen times in Times Square.
"For me, it's the most fun to paint where it has a really strong impact," the New York Post quoted Golub, a married father of two, as saying.
"When I started painting outdoors, it became an interaction that included the public. When people see a nude model, it's like, 'Wow' ufffd it makes them look at things differently," he stated.
Golub, a resident of South Nyack, NY, consider his decision to have his models take off even their G-strings as extension of his earlier work and perfectly legal.
"It's very much a continuation of what I've been doing," he said.
"I explained [to the models] that it was perfectly legal, but that I had not done it before, and I couldn't say what the reaction of the police might be. These particular models were comfortable with it," he added.
