Michael Amatrudo uploaded his parents' details on the popular website Craigslist to see what sort of response they would generate.
But the 51-year-old was left shocked when he received hundreds of e-mail messages asking about delivery time and shipping costs. Some even mentioned they could do with good parents.
The advert read, "Perfectly good parents. Got lots of use out of these guys over the past 50 years, but it's time to move on. Excellent overall condition. Still plenty of life in them."
Although they were advertised at $155 (Rs 7,575), Amatrudo also wrote he would consider trading them for a "newer model, hot blonde under age 40 or an Erector Set in good condition".
Amatrudo's wife Karen said, "His parents are used to their kids having a great sense of humour. But they definitely thought the price was too low."
