According to Hollywood, a successful prison breakout usually involves a certain amount of tunnelling and climbing.
But for inmate Juan Ramirez Tijerina, his very own 'great escape' ended pretty abruptly after he was caught trying to sneak of a Mexican prison in a suitcase following a conjugal visit.
Prison guards found Juan Ramirez Tijerina curled up in the foetal position
A spokesman for police in the state of Quintana Roo says staff at the prison in Chetumal noticed that 19-year-old Maria del Mar Arjona seemed nervous and was pulling a black, wheeled suitcase that looked bulky.
Spokesman Gerardo Campos said Monday that prison guards checked the bag and found inmate Juan Ramirez Tijerina curled up inside in the foetal position.
Ramirez is serving a 20-year sentence for a 2007 conviction for illegal weapons possession.
Arjona was arrested and charges are pending.
Bizarre escapes
In 2009, a mother helped her son escape prison by ramming a semi-truck into the security fences of the prison in USA and came out blasting with a gun. Sandra Sigler drove the truck into the prison walls and made off with her son Jay.
