Russian president-elect Vladimir Putin earned more than outgoing President Dmitry Medvedev for the fourth straight year in 2011, although their salaries were dwarfed by the income of some ministers
Putin, who will next month begin his third term as president, earned 3.7 million rubles (Rs 65 lakh) in 2011, according to official declarations on the Russian government website. Medvedev earned 3.3 million rubles (Rs 56 lakh). The president-elect and his wife — the seldom-seen Lyudmila — declared owning two Russian-made GAZ passenger cars, a Niva sports utility vehicle, and a trailer that Putin inherited from his father.

They own a 1,500-square-metre plot of land in addition to two apartments, the declaration showed.No less modest are the holdings of Medvedev and his wife, Svetlana, who jointly own a 367.8-square-metre apartment in Moscow and hold a lease on a 4,700-square-metre plot of land.
Medvedev owns two antique Russian cars, while his wife has a 13-year-old Volkswagen. The government’s highest earner was Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Khloponin, who together with his wife declared 489 million rubles (Rs 85 crore).u00a0
