A roadside bomb in the western Afghan city of Herat killed 12 people on Monday, including two police officers, and injured 20, a police spokesman said.

A roadside bomb in the western Afghan city of Herat killed 12 people on Monday, including two police officers, and injured 20, a police spokesman said.


The bomb was remotely detonated when the car of a district police chief passed by, the chief's spokesman Nor Ahmad Nikzad said.


The police chief, who is believed to have been the attack's target, was among the injured, Nikzad said.


The other injured were one other policeman and 18 civilians, he added.
